What I've been forward to new seasons of television shows! You can watch many of these shows on hulu (boo to their disabling PS3 browsers), including my anticipated "Flashforward" about the day everyone blacked out and saw visions of their future. It looks apocalyptic and co-star John Cho (the Harold in Harold and Kumar).
I'm also loving the Fringe Season One Bluray, which you'll want to get the Best Buy version to get the free comic book by Wildstorm/DC Comics.
Looking through news.weheartmusic.com, I see there are quite a few bands announcing fall/winter tour dates, except for that "it's all yellow" band, Coldplay (official/myspace). They're giving away a nine-track live album called Left Right Left Right as a free download at coldplay.com/lrlrl/lr.html.
No reason, they're not touring or in need of promotion. I think it was just a thankyou gift to their fans.

Daniel Johnston (official/myspace) is also on tour. I'll admit to smiling to myself when I read his tagline: "hundreds of songs, and dozens of fans". He's got more than a dozen.
If everything falls into place, we'll have a review of his New York show. Shame he's avoiding the midwest altogether.

There are some bands this boy is fated never to see. It saddens me to add The Decemberists to that list. Another tour, another missed opportunity.
Having discovered that The Decemberist concert I was supposed to attend in Newcastle clashed with a vegan wedding in Germany, I clambered to get tickets for the Liverpool concert on 10th October 2007. Oh joy, oh joy! The tickets were available! Unfortunately, the band is not!
According to their website:
With much regret The Decemberists have cancelled the remainder of our European tour. One of our band members is ill and needs to return immediately home to mend.
Our deepest apologies to all of our fans whom have purchased tickets to our forthcoming European shows. Unfortunately our calendar doesn't allow us to return to Europe at any point soon so please refund tickets at point of purchase.
It saddens us to disappoint our fans. We hope everybody understands that it is because of an extreme situation that we had to make such an abrupt change in plans.
Obviously, the We♥Music team hopes the sickly band member gets well soon...and I am not bitter in the slightest. Never one to let the bad news win, I thought I'd use this as an excuse to post two covers by The Decemberists.
The first track appeared in The Believer (June 2005 Music Issue) magazine. It is a cover of Joanna Newsom's Bridges And Balloons. The rest of the cover CD contains similar covers by a variety of artists.
If anybody has a copy of that The Believer CD, please feel free to contact me on the email address below.
The second track is taken from an album entitled 'Interpreting Bjork' and is exactly that, an interpretation of Bjork's Human Behaviour from her album Debut.
Anyway, to the best of my knowledge the Decemberists will honour their US tour with Laura Veirs. If you check out their tour page, you'll notice an option by each date to add it to your gcal or ical. I may not be getting to see The Decemberists but the geek in me loves calendar options so I am happy now.

I've heard a lot of talk in the blog world about Technorati, but I never paid attention to it. Then yesterday I found we♥music's profile! Not just that, but there is also a ranking number assigned to it. Obviously we're not as popular as some bloggers (we're not as popular as CrankyPants, she's ranked at 22,289). Here's some other ranking to kind of show you where we're at:
DATA AS OF 5/28/2007
* I am assuming these unique links that people are linking TO us? If that is the case, I am also assuming that the more comments you make on other blogs, the more "links" back to your blog. It seems like a plausible theory. |
You can check out how your blog fairs against the world by going to Technorati.
UPDATE: Changing your url ultimately lowers your ranking. ![]()
Since today is Memorial Day, at least in America, I thought it would be fitting to put up this song, "The Soldiering Life" by the Decemberists. If you're not familiar with the Decemberists, their singer/songwriter is Colin Meloy. He seems to write all their songs as if they were written in the early 1900s (complete with parchment paper and quill pen).

I talked to someone who absolutely hated the Decemberists last night.
He didn't believe me that Colin Meloy has a Morrissey EP. He couldn't care less, actually.
Anyway, since today is Sunday, this song is just perfect.
