I know a lot of people just don't like the guy. I am not one of those people. I actually love Kanye West. I think he makes awesome beats and he's got (as my friend likes to say) flow. He's arrogant and an ego maniac and is notorious for throwing fits at award shows. All of that is uncool, I know this, but I like the guy. And when I heard is mom died, I felt for him too. I've lost my mom as well and I've known that pain for years. Almost my whole life, so I knew his next record was going to be a painful one. To make matters worse for the guy, his long time girlfriend/fiance` leaves him too. Ouch. I guess I knew what to expect from this record, especially when I first heard the first single come out. Love Lockdown. I've got to admit though, I was NOT fond of this single and grew a bit weary of what was to come. I'm not the type to go seeking out leaked albums and tracks so I waited patiently for the record to come out and waited for his performance on the AMA's, hoping he'd do a different single rather than the one I wasn't feeling as mentioned before. It was hard, I must admit, to wait for it; there weren't a lot of good things going on at the AMA's. Then I heard "Heartless" and I really liked it, so there was hope. At least that's what I felt. He performed the song so well and you could hear it in his voice, his heart is totally broken. So I've heard the album and yeah, it's full of pain. Almost every song feels like a total downer. It's just sad. It's not the Good Life, but his break out wasn't the Good Life. His break out song was "Through the Wire". THAT was a song made frome pain. Jesus Walks, that was a song not exactly of pain, but still had the same feeling. So he broke out and made the Good Life. You know, because life was good. Wellllll, life is not so good anymore and you can hear it. I picked the song "Welcome To Heartbreak." It's probably the best off the album. I'm not saying the album isn't good, it is. But I'm biased, and it's going to be an album I listen to when I'm sad. Like when I break out the Elliot Smith stuff, now I'm gonna be breakin' out this one.The album is also named after not only his hearbreak, but also the drum machine he used to make the album. He used a (or maybe a couple of) Roland TR 808. Very nice looking machine I must say. I think I might want one of those too! I just hope you enjoy the songs. Forgive me for my entries too; they aren't very well written. ^.^ Commence enjoyment!
The song features Kid Kudi. He's an up and comer from Chicago. Just like Kanye. From what I've heard, he's pretty dark sounding, but he's got quite a following it seems. I had seen a performance from a club he had done. He sampled the Ting Tings "Shut up and let me go" and people were eating it up! They loved it. I'm expecting great things from this dude. I think he's gonna be awesome. So keep an eye out for Kid Kudi! Sorry I didn't change the artwork too. It's just the same as the other. I should have put the picture of him in his grey PeeWee Herman suit, but it's my favorite off the record. And I'm not knockin' him for the grey suit either. I like it. So yeah, the record is out now, so go get it. Or don't it's fine. Alrighty, I'm out.
I wanted to give you guys a November update, even though the month's nearly over. I'm looking over my pending music list right now and I have too many to cover before the year's over, but I'm going to give it the old college try and cover as much of it as I can before starting a fresh slate for 2009. I'm very excited about the new year, working with brand new exciting music companies that we haven't worked with before.
Also, I wanted to give a warm welcome to Jaklumen to the W♥M team, who I think will be handling most of the electronica/ambient stuff. I'm going to try and schedule to have all the active writers to appear on a future podcast (once everything is sorted out, I think our next writer appearance is Australian "Schnitzel" Sally). For those keeping track, previous appearances includes: Kate & Lara, Emelia, Brian, Alex, Derek, Dave, Ryan, and Christina. I would love to get a reoccuring co-host, but just getting someone to a commitment to a weekend recording session on a regular basis is harder than you think. Generally, I prefer taping on Sunday (daytime) so I can work on editing the show Sunday evening, whilst catching up on television I've missed via hulu.com.
Speaking of television shows, as I am writing this, I'm downloading the third season of Supernatural on iTunes for free. Technically, I have paid for it because I picked up the DVD. I'm starting to see more and more when you buy a DVD it comes with a digital copy of the movie for watching it on your computer or portable device. Since I have an iPod Touch, I have noticed I am starting to use its video feature a lot (especially when I'm sitting around with my cat and reading reference books).
Not to sound like such an Apple fanboy, but I really think it's one of the best looking and performing device. In fact, here is what W♥M looks like on an iPod. The Safari browser renders the page correctly, and the zooming function works like a charm. There is a lot of scrolling involved, but I reckon it's not a device that you're going to spend hours reading on it like a digital book. The way I see it, is that it's just to quickly look at website or catching up on some emails.
Sure, I would love another browser on the iPod, like Opera, but Apple does not play nice. I just want the freedom to add whatever software I want to it, you know? Quake (with physical buttons add on) is available on a broken iPhone, so the potential is there! They can really turn this into a PSP or Nintendo DS competitor, but perhaps that's fourth or fifth generation down the line.
If Quake is your thing, the best free first-person shooter on the iPod is Cube. This is such a great-looking game on the platform, shame the accelerometer control and gamma is pretty bad. For the price (free), I would still give it a five-star rating.
As for music, I've been listening to Camera Obscura on my iPod and as a special bonus, here is our own Emelia with her ukulele rendition of "Tears for Affair". Apologize in advance for photography cover artwork, just so you feel better, here's a picture of me & photogirl. I do have a funny story about that picture, but for the long and short of it, the photograph was taken at a Camera Obscura concert on a velvet couch at the Varsity Theater.
Hey, if you use hype machine, twitter, or lastfm, please add us! Also, we were recently on vox.com/music!Of course you protest, that's what you do best
And you're modest and shy to the end
You're watching them as they're looking at you
And you know it was money well spentShe told me you'd given up drinking to be with somebody you knew
And you tried to get into the bible but it never got into you
UPDATE 11/30/08: Normally we get one or two people who listens to W♥M exclusively through The Hype Machine, which is not a lot, but any new reader/listeners is cool in my book.
Well today I checked our page and there is a huge spike (36 as of this writing) on the Camera Obscura's "Tears for Affair" song!

This is Mr. Hammonds sophomore album and I've got to say, it's pretty good. Then again, I am biased. Albert Hammond Jr. is my favorite member of the Strokes, or I should say, would seem like less of an a-hole. Don't get me wrong, I like all their albums, but they just don't seem like nice dudes. I don't know, I'm probably wrong. Anyway, I have always liked him and I really loved his 2006 debut album Yours To Keep (which I also wrote about ^.^).
This time around, it does seem like he's having a hard time fixing on a "sound", but that doesn't necessarily mean the album isn't good. Perhaps he's just trying to distance his own sound from his other band. But I wouldn't have found anything wrong with that. Sounding like the Strokes that is. So yeah, I picked the song Lisa and I hope you like it too.
So go ahead and pick up a copy of Como Te Llama today. It's out today
actually. I wanted to do this a couple of days ago, but I've been too busy. So just in time right? Oh, and about a week ago I was at his webpage and it's got this little feature where you can add your picture to the checkerboard background. Well it's pretty much filled up now. I don't know, I thought that was a cute idea. So here is the song I picked and a few links to follow. Commence enjoyment!
Oh yeah! Tour Dates!! go check him out ladies and gents.

Pronounced "eehhee" are a band straight outta Phoenix, Arizona. Crazy mothafucka named Zack Burba is the only permanant member of iji. He pretty much writes all the songs and plays most of the instruments on all the records, and he looks a lot like Mark Ibold from Pavement (hawt) but that's just my opinion so whatevs. Other members of the band also include Brit May whom as Zach says is closest thing to a second full time member. She plays keys and is the official female vocalist. I love her vocals btw. They are just the sweetest touch to the songs. Lovely. Carrying on. Other members also include: Kevin Steinhauser (Math The Band), Justine Mainville (Math The Band), Elliot Maldanado (Drew Danburry,, Sea Sea Rider, Belda Beast), Robby Fronzo (Paul Fowler's Steller Nursery), Nick Shively (Balloons is Fun?, band artist)[I totally cut and pasted that ^.^] Anyhow...
I was introduced to iji's music via Claude from Pop Song Romance who runs a video zine on myspace (just follow the link!)and he also ran the Hellapop festival a couple weeks back (That I regreftully oh so regretfully did not attend, and yes I am ashamed). He said "You should go, your gonna love iji" So not being able to go I checked out their myspace and now I am hooked. All songs playing on their myspace are downloadable and you can purchase all their albums right there off their myspace! yay! They've done 5 tours playing in almost every state and might be playing in a venue near you! Zach says they like to play all age venues like art galleries and diy spaces. That sounds pretty sweet. Also, if you mosey on down to Lost Sound Tapes, you can purchase iji's soup/salad cassette, so bust out your old walkman and start ordering! Now enjoy the songs I picked to post and I've also added the popsongromance video because I love it :| Commence enjoyment. OH and before I forget here are some tour dates.

So mc chris has an excellent new album out. It's called mc chris is dead, so go buy it, quickly now! But first, have a listen. I picked 2 of my favorite songs to share with you guys. Firstly I chose the masturbation song. Upon reading the title I giggled and thought "oh this is gonna be silly", it's got this awesome throwback feel to it, old school and at the same time it makes me think of Donnie Darko. ya know what i mean? I dunno, anyway it just sounds awesome and the lyrics are pretty good too. It's about how mc was a bit of a jerk in middle school and then this dude totally tells everybody that when mc was at his house he caught him masturbating in his sleeping bag. Somethin' like that. It's really good ^.^ and Secondly I chose Pizza Butt. Sometimes when I'm just walking around or washing dishes I just like to say "THAT PIZZA BUTTTTT". You'll see why when you listen to the song. So fun to sing along to. or rap along to. However you choose. So yeah, go buy his album, digitally or hardcopy, don't matter. I plan to get a hardcopy eventually. Maybe he'll have some at warped tour here in Fresno. I sure hope so. I hope I get to meet him too. That'd be awesome! Oh yeah, he's got like a BAJILLIAN tour dates so please please please check him out. mc chris is the coolest. Add him on your myspace and read all his bulletins, he's great. I'll post a couple more of my past favorite mc chris songs too for your listening pleasure.
And here are some oldies, but goodies. ^.^
alright, well I guess that's all for now. Make sure to make a donation if you can to his nephew Murray. He was recently diagnosed with Cystic Phibrosis. He's just a little guy, so help him out. :) That as well can be done at mc's myspace.
Bye!
I know, I'm the worst writer here ^.^
They pretty much sound awesome and the choruses are totally sing-a-longable. Most excellent. I really can't get enough of this band and I so want to be an Alligator. They hail from Provo, Utah and have a couple of shows posted on their myspace. So check them out if you are in the area, because I'm more than sure they are awesome live too. Almost all the songs are downloadable except one of my favorites which is called Affliated so go to their myspace and listen to it! Because it's awesome. So here are a couple more, so enjoy :)

This is a band I've been listening to for a while. I don't remember where I heard them because at the time I was didn't care where it was coming from, I just wanted something new, however I had seen them in many a blogs. I guess they are blogosphere darlings. Anyway, I thought about posting here, but then I decided not to because I'm lazy :) This band is getting pretty popular it seems. Even being named one of the ten best new bands for 2008 by Rolling Stone. Their debut EP "Wizard of Ahhhs" is available for free download. I decided instead of posting the single that seems to be heard anywhere these guys are written about, I'm gonna post the one I listened to over and over.
About the band: They are from Jacksonville Florida and if your a fan of the cure or bands of the like, you will probably warm up to these guys. I can't say I'm a particular fan of the genre. I mean, it's got a special place in my heart, but I'm not all over it. But I completely warmed up to this band and I enjoyed all 4 songs off the EP. The band members consist of Ali and Reggie Youngblood (bro and sis) Ali on keys and Reggie is lead vocalist and guitar. Also, Dawn Watley whom they say is the most musically talented of the bunch. And Owen Holmes on bass and Kevin Snow on drums. So yeah, I like this band and have finally decided to make an entry here. Hope you enjoy! Ok so here are the links you need to follow to get some info and what not.
This is where the download is: Black Kids Music
Black Kids on Myspace
All their tour info can be found on their myspace page. Sorry I didn't post it up, I don't know how to do that little table thingy where we put all the tour info. ^.^ They are doing a lot of festivals and they are gonna be at Coachella this year. I hear they are pretty dang good live!

I thought I'd do just one more entry, what can I say, I've got the holiday spirit going on here. So anyway, this song has got to be my favorite song right now. I just love it. The Cribs are an excellent three piece indie band of twin brothers Gary and Ryan Jarman and their little brother Ross Jarman. They hail from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. England. The song I picked is off their 2007 release of Men's Needs, Woman's Needs, Whatever. Great album, I high suggest you check it out. Anyway I won't say much as I never really do. Just enjoy the single I chose and have a Merry Christmas. You can check out their website, which isn't a bad looking site btw, for tour dates and much more. Again, I hope you all a joyous holiday. Merry Christmas!

I haven't really any information on this band as they only have a myspace and it has no bio. I could have asked for some info, but I really wanted to get this band out before the holidays because they are excellent and I haven't much time to do this sort of stuff. I do know they are from Stockholm, Sweden. So far they only have a 3 song cd single out that can be purchased through Cloudberry Records. The first two tracks are downloadable on their myspace and I suggest you go on over and download them both. It was really hard to choose which one to feature because they are both so good. Anyway, I really hope you guys like it. Also, have an totally radical holiday everybody! Jyah!
I've been itching to get this one on here for awhile now so here it goes!
Komon is basically a one girl project and she's fantastic. Her name is Antonia and she hails from Sweden. She started out in 2001 and has evolved to what she calls an electrotwee sound. It's basically beats and guitars and casios/organs, and it's simply wonderful. So the song I picked to put up is downloadable on her myspace and she has a few more listed up that you just have to listen to AND a nice little christmas one too called Poetry for the Winter that is also downloadable. Also, there is this one song posted up on the Papillons Noir myspace called E-bay Watchlist and it's exquisite, I highly recommend you go on over and have a listen.
Also, there is a electro side project called Anthronica and it's pretty good so have a listen to that too. Sorry this wasn't a very eloquent post. Just make sure you go and visit Komon's myspace because the songs are excellent. All of them! Alright, I'll leave you now with some links to follow.
Komon | Papillons Noir | Anthronica
