They are calling Adele Adkins (or better known as Adele) the new "Amy" (Winehouse). It is no surprise, because I thought their vocals are very similar, after listening to her "Chasing Pavement" from her debut album, 19.
The album's been out in the UK since January, and after hitting the top 40 UK charts, and going platinum in two months, she was signed to Columbia Records in the US. Her record, according to the last press release, will be made available to US fans on all traditional formats on Tuesday, June 10th.
Already, her video is making its round on VH1, and from talking to people, I felt that they are all very excited about Adele.
There's good news, tomorrow starts her US tour at Los Angeles's Roxy Theatre, it continues to June 21st
before her return to the UK, starting in Paris and onto London and
Japan. See her entire tour information on the sidebar on the right.
So far, populated areas have all sold out (Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, New York), so I suggest you buy your tickets in advance if you want a guarantee seating (or you can try your luck with her ticket contest). Already demands for New York was so great, an additional date was added for June 11th.
So, a little trivia, apparently the album is called 19 as that's her age when the album was released in the UK. As of last May 5th, she turned twenty years old... let's hope her next album will be called legal 21.
Adele's debut album, 19 will be out in the US on June 10th, but I noticed that you can already buy it digitally on iTunes.

They have a new single out on October 1st called "Jacqueline", and will be getting ready to headline a new tour for that month.
I should also mention that if you preorder the single, you also get a limited signed artwork (which is always a nice bonus to get extras!)
Although I say a lot of hype for this band, they've been around since 1996 and have released five albums already! And they were considered by many to be the first guitar-driven band that's all the rage now with the kids.
Their first album reached number 5 in the UK charts and one of their singles "Goodbye" reached number twenty-one on the top 40. Unfortunately, they never quite reached the American audiences.
I recently saw this band as one of the spotlighted bands on myspace (which probably meant that the record company threw some cash at Tom.)
Anyroad, I did like this new single. It sounds very British and the acoustic guitar reminds me of an older 60s sound. There's not too much lyrics and it seems like a really short song.

I was just about ready to burn some mixes for my little bro's stag party this weekend when, as if timed to perfection, the new Headliners CD arrived through my letterbox.
It claims to offer the ultimate Festival line-up and in fairness if you attend any of the major festivals in the UK this summer you are likely to see, at least, three or four acts that appear on this collection. On disk one you have all your big players from the Anglo-American rock scene from Oasis to Muse to the Kings of Leon. While disk two features the likes of Calvin Harris, Faithless and Mylo.
How effective was Headliners in wetting my appetite for this year's live music? Surprisingly so, considering my taste in music has mellowed to the extent Young Ryan would have mugged the manbag of Old Ryan without a second thought.
Due to the restrictions of record labels, you'll never find the perfect compilation cd in the stores, full of all your favourite anthems. However this collection of tracks is as good as it gets and I know it will be a rip roaring success when I play it on repeat at my Bro's drink-fueled stag party.
Of course, as any wise festival goer will know, the big bands that feature in this compilation are the eye candy that guarantees an enjoyable festival on the main stages. The real joy of live festival music is stumbling upon the next big thing on the minor stages. If you are looking for that sort of spiritual guidance, look else where.
As the festival season commences with Glastonbury next weekend, these are the sort of acts you expect to see but by the end of the summer, you may possibly have a whole different range of wants and needs.
In these modern times, given the availability of music online and the ability to create your own playlists quickly and effectively I am left wondering if there is really a demand for this Headliners CD. Well, lets face it, there will always be lazy folks out there and there will always be people who just want to listen to something without having to create it themselves. If you fall into either of these categories, then this compilation is for you!
At the end of the day, this isn't high-brow folk music. This is the loud, brash sound of 2007 combined with some of the old festival classics, and despite my better judgement, I like it!
This compilation is available in the UK & USA on 18th June 2007.
Enjoy your festivals wisely people!! - Ryan

NME presents The Essential Bands – Festival Edition was just released on June 11th, 2007 (available in America as an import on June 14th).
I didn't know how successful they are, but according to the press release that the first two NME Presents album have sold over 600,000 copies. That's actually really good numbers for the UK because they have different standards for certification of "Platinum" (300,000 copies). For trivia's sake, US Certified Platinum is having 1,000,000 copies sold.
Despite Mr C's protests, we cover quite a few NME-hyped bands, so if you want to check out what they sound like, here are some internal links: Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Jet, Patrick Wolf, The Wombats, and The Cribs.
I am actually kind of working on a concert review for the Maccabees and Noisettes entry. I'll give you a preview: the Noisettes are a scary-looking band! The singer from the Maccabees dances around like he's Ian Curtis!
