Even if you've not heard of N*E*R*D (that's "No one Ever Really Dies"), you'll likely know of founding member R&B producer Pharrell Williams. N*E*R*D are a collaborative effor between Pharell, Chad Hugo, Shay Haley and whoever they manage to drag in to band duties, and are pretty much the only band I've ever known to try and combine R&B style lyrics in to Hip-Hop / Rock tunes whilst trying to pass themselves off as an Indie / Rock band in the likes of metal mag Kerrang!. If it was anyone other than Pharell, I'm sure it'd crash and burn, and they've deffinately got their fair share of critics (especially for the lyrics), but the result is at least one extremely catchy album - Fly or Die - from which I've included the track Breakout but you really should check out the rest if you've not already.

Update: From a YouTube posting:
painintheass66: "hi ...there is no name for the song..its just a 30 second piece written specially for the commercial...its not available..but i hear they want us to do a longer version...which i would love to try...
ps im the singer...angela mccluskey....wicked commercial innit xx "
God's Guest List pretty much sums up the band for me, and all the 90s britpop I loved, so take a listen if you've not heard them before. I'll leave Vu to fill in anything else interesting, I mean, I was like 12 in 96, I wasn't paying much attention... except to the Chart Show on ITV and Louise Wener jumping in to swimming pools.

Hasn't stopped me listening to strange and ethereal late 90s musical releases though. Keeping my Last.fm account ticking this week is Ooberman's Shorley Wall. I don't know where, when or how I got it. I think a girl by a beach sent it, maybe it's just the beachey lyrics make me think that. Anyway it's not like I know much more about the band either, other than they're from Liverpool, formed 90s broke 03. Just enjoy the sunny synth sounds and pray it doesn't snow again. Girl at the end's a bit epic like, but aren't they all.

EDIT: So I goes to the trouble of finding the art, downloading the installer, and then can't add it as it's an m4a file. And it's not like Vox is gonne let me change the image, is it? Oh dear... Well, at least you can enjoy the video.
Edit: Oh wait, there's more! Ok just how many songs did coldplay rip off? Rofl...

EDIT 12/13/08 VU: That first video was removed due to "a copyright claim by EMI Music". Ironic because the video is about infringing on copyrighted works. I don't think it should've been removed because it's fair-use with only excerpts of the chords.
Vu's blogged Tату (that's t.A.T.u. to you non Russians) before, back in 2007 when apparently they only had 2 albums, and later that year with their Morrissey cover. Well the busy bunnies now have 5 studio albums, with the latest Veselye Ulybki (Waste Management) due out sometime this year. Having slipped in to obscurity, motherhood, and presumably some form of musical respect again, I've no idea what any of their latest stuff is like.
Luckily six years ago they were annoying enough to get noticed. I say lucky, as otherwise they wouldn't have made the "100 most annoying pop moments" TV show I watched last night. Included was their breakout hit All The Things She Said, and reminded me just how good the thing was all those years ago. One of the few singles I loved that I never bought. Well thank god for the internets, russian lesbians *and* free music. Last.fm has both if you need more.
Christopher.
Camping with my parents in bug infested fields as a kid scared me for life, so when festival time comes around I stay stuck firmly to my couch. Lucky for me the BBC are on hand to bring huge coverage of the big ones, and Glastonbury is no exception. Unlike last year though, I'm hoping there's more than just the one decent band that catches my attention (2007's was the Go! Team). Thankfully this year's started well as I'm already moved to tell you all about one act.
Natty is an alt Reggae act from London and his acoustic version of July just played on BBC 2 got me searching round for some more. Check out his MySpace if you wanna know more. Hopefully I'll be back later with some more Glasto picks. Jay Z, anyone? No? Go figure...

Sorry, no music from me today (surely Vu will add some to the post?) but a heads up for all the UK readers.
Play.com are currently running a Best Of The 90s sale with albums and best-ofs from some of the best bands of the 90s from only £2.99 shipped. $6 in the US might get you a new album, but here we can't even pick up stuff in charity shops for that little so it ain't bad. Anyway...
Choice highlights so far include an Echobelly Best-Of for £2.99, Sleeper Best Of for £4.99, Manics' Everything Must Go £4.99, and my personal favorite, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince Best-Of, £2.99. I could go on forever as seriously, every row has a great band on them, so just check out sale for yourself.

Vu's Note: Sadly, I own all these albums you mentioned (plus about 75% of what is on sale at that store). 90s, baby....
Incidentally, in Suede news, singer Brett Anderson will be releasing his second album, Wilderness on July 7th at his concert that costs £30. Surely, you may think this is expensive, but as a way to pad the pain to fans, buying the concert tickets ensures a USB stick with his new album on it.
Oh I know it's not right, being a music blog and all, but this is one of the funniest things I've seen all year. Thanks to daljian in the Eurovision post comments we now know who the funny drunk man was. Björn Gustafsson is unsurprisingly even funnier though, as this amazing standup performance on some at some Swedish awards show. Don't worry, it's all subbed up, just promise me you'll watch right to the end, yah? "Steeg diev!" Rofl11.
