The Music of the X-Files

Comments

That Key of X album is great... any CD that features Nick Cave, Soul Coughing and the mighty William S. Burroughs is an essential purchase, as far as I'm concerned!

I once read that the Catatonia song was an anti-X-Files song though... apparently Cerys Matthews wrote it to make fun of the show and how silly she thought the cases were, suggesting that they'd run out of ideas and that even the break of her relationship would qualify as suitable material for an episode.

Look forward to hearing how you liked the movie! I would go see Xfiles before Batman :)

hahahah LOL @ "vulder"! :)
I am a huge fan of the show.... greatly disappointed when it was pulled! I am interested to know what you think of the movie too. I am really hopeful that the movie is a sign that the files will return to TV.
I heart vulder too!
and thanks for the list. a must to any x-phile
I'm choosing my words carefully, as to not give you any spoilers.

First of all, you do not need to know any X-Files before venturing to see this movie, it does hold up to a stand-alone film... but it does help to have known the show as there are winks that only loyal fans would understand.

I did enjoy the film overall, but I believe if you don't care about the X-Files, this would come off as a pretty standard crime/police movie with a little bit of the unknown/supernatural.

I've seen a LOT of movies, and what works here is the "real life" coppers and evildoers. I like it when the movie is grounded in reality - and it plays off like "Silence of the Lambs", where you're given bits of clues and you sort of "piece together" the story as it unfolds.

Where the movie fail is the incredibly, unbelievable, even ridiculous premise. You will know what I'm talking about once you've seen the film.

Other failure: relationships of Fox and Dana. Who is asking for this??? Not me. The movie would've worked if we never know (it would've been better if you didn't know). The unveiling of the answer hit you like a brick in the face, WTF.

If you like crime drama/thriller, this might be a movie for you - if you've never cared for the X-Files or thrillers, skip this movie. For X-Files fan, you must see this movie. It feels good to see it on the big screen, and I'll pick up the bluray of this when it's released.

Very nice, Vu. I was totally excited about it. I stilll like looking at the trailer, but, as you stated, the premise was pretty bad. Just glad that that damned Cigarette Smoking Man didn't magically appear for no reason. Krycek, I could've done with. (Yes, I know that he's dead, too.) Also, I felt that the mood wasn't as dark or creepy as the episodes -- maybe because of the length? I dunno. Callum Keith Rennie rocks, as has been stated on this blog before.

I really want to see it but I have to wait. Drat.

i think the best episodes were the ones that mixed in humor (i'm thinking "War of the Cophrages," "Bad Blood," the Cher one, "Jose Chung's From Outer Space," etc.). they should have done a movie like that. i think cult fiction fails when it starts taking itself too seriously and this movie looks like it does just that. (but i'll still see it because i'm totally an X-Files fangirl.)
Looking forward to see the movie, thanks for the comment!
Best review I've heard is from a friend here at work:
"I went to see that X-Files movie. I fell asleep about an hour in. Then I woke up. And I was annoyed that I couldn't get back to sleep."
Sounds like a real winner of a movie :)
I don't think I've ever fallen asleep at the theater, but I can understand it as it's dark and cool... just like a powerpoint meeting.

BTW, I've recently decided to write about 1 movie a day. There's no research, just what I like/what I hate about my netflix queue (I'm on the 5-at-a-time deal). You can probably tell a lot about me via my movie rental habits.
DANG! How do you have time to write MORE? You are a veritable font of blogging!
it's a good thing you don't know i also created george-perez.com (comic books). yeah, i know, i have no life.
