Switchfoot

Another tidbit of information...Switchfoot left their Sony/BMG label last year and are now running their own independent label. Sony still has the rights to their older stuff, so this release is their doing, not the band's.
That is true, re: not on BMG/Sony anymore, but unlike Capitol's Radiohead release, this greatest hits CD actually had input from the band who determined the tracklisting (although if you ask me, I don't think they intended to have a greatest hits cd release if it were up to them).
Exactly my point. :) Greatest Hits CDs are generally just money makers for the record labels. And it wasn't Switchfoot's idea, even if they decided to guide it a bit once it became reality.
I love Switchfoot!

I thought they are a semi-recent Christian band - yet, surprisingly, I found out that the band's been around for ages and have rejected the idea of "Christian music" as a genre.

Good for them. Personally, the notion of the genre really seems like a straitjacket. I don't really have a high estimation of "praise" music overall, and I really prefer that an artist be able to explore a wider range of spiritual issues and the nuances within them.

Switchfoot performed at my college my senior year--these dudes can put on a show! I have gone back and forth over whether they are one of the pseudo-christian rock groups, but it's good to know they reject the genre. It seems to me that these days many groups fall into that slot of the captive audience and that's no good. Good for them though that they've had a certain audience embrace their music--no doubt that has contributed to their success.
