Soul Asylum & the Honeydogs @ OLL Blast! Mound, Minnesota 5.2.09

by the way, the story behind that spazzy picture of Pirner is that he did a little guitar solo and then threw the guitar to the side as if he were afraid of it.

wow, I just watched Reality Bites over the weekend --- I think I'd only seen it once before-- and noticed Dave Pirner in the background, too funny.

They got lost between the hardcore scene of the 80s and the grunge scene of the 90s, they just didn't fit in anywhere which is a shame because I always liked his songwriting, at least on the 80s stuff.

Soul Asylum (esp. "Runaway Train") taught me my very first lesson in "now-I-hate-my-favorite-band-because-MTV-made-them-everyone's-favorite-band-for-all-the-wrong-reasons-and-now-they're-just-not-cool-anymore." They awoke my inner cynic and for that I will always be grateful. Also bitter. Very, very bitter.
ironically, many of the things that MTV made "cool" they later ruined.
