S.Darko

I think most critics didn't really like S.Darko, and I don't understand why. If they remotely liked the original film, this film is practically the same movie - in both tone and writing. What's back? The iconic bunny mask, the liquid thing, strange imagery, the countdown, reversal of film/time-theory, Daveigh Chase, sleepwalking, etc.
My only fear is that they continuously release additional sequels. You know, like we didn't need Hellraiser 5, 6, 7, and 8 (all awful direct-to-video).
The soundtrack is quintessential 90s alternative: Catherine Wheel's "Black metallic", Dead Can Dance's "The Carnival is Over", Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas", and one particular song made me smile a shameful smile that I own "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe" by Whale from their debut album, We Care. As far as one-hit wonders goes, this was it for the Swedish band. They sort of just fell off the face of the planet (I didn't even know they had a sophomore album, All Disco Dance Must End In Broken Bones).
So if you enjoyed Donnie Darko, you really have to see S Darko. This is a straight-to-DVD/Bluray movie (released last Tuesday, May 12th on 20th Century Fox), so you will have to either rent or buy it. As for a soundtrack, there is no announcement for an official soundtrack.

I always thought it was Homo Humping Slobo Babe... wow, thanks for teaching me something new about my forgotten past. ;)
I disagree with you, When you make the statement of S. Darko being the same as Donnie Darko. They are nothing alike. Donnie Darko is better it has a deeper meaning and it's easier to understand. I don't think S. Darko should have been created simply because in the ending of Donnie Darko thier is no hints that a part 2 was going to be created. S Darko is a very hard movie to follow and understand. The effects are the only cool thing about S Darko. But its storyline isn't that great. It is not the same movie. You making the statement that Donnie Darko is the same as S. Darko only proves to me that you've never fully understood Donnie Darko! Donnie Darko is a really good movie. Richard Kelly should have played a role in the sequel but he didn't. I would have liked S.Darko if it was set in the same location as the original Donnie Darko. I hate the fact that they put the cast out in the middle of the desert. That was pointless to me. I didn't like how they keep showing people die and come back to life. That was pointless also. The only reason Richard Kelly sold his rights to his film is because he knows that thier will be no film sequel prequel or anything that will top Donnie Darko. It would have been a good movie if Donnie Darko took the place of Frank and was tryining to show his sister how to find the key to bringing someone back to our demension (her and Donnie's parents). The enviroment should have been the same as it was in the original film. I hate the fact that they changed that. I do agree with you though. That a sequel to Donnie Darko should have not been created. I am not saying the writter did a bad job. It's just that the sequel wasn't good. I would have really enjoyed seeing a prequel and understanding how Frank became the masked bunny, And making it set in the 80s before Donnie's happening. That would have been a really interesting thing to watch! I am young and dream to be a writer. But one thing I have noticed about Directors, Writers whatever is that they should focus hard on the storyline and not rush the storyline. Becuase when that happens the movie becomes dumb. They should take their time. Their is no need to rush a storyline!
