Roisin Murphy's Overpowered Album

EMI (UK) Records will release Róisín Murphy's second album Overpowered on October 15th, however the album is released today in her native Ireland.. The record will not be available in the States.

I first heard of Moloko around 2000. They had a massive dance hit with "Sing it Back". I didn't see the excellent video for this song until youtube had exploded. You can check out a better quality (and less likely to be deleted) video on stage6.

Moloko was pretty much the pairing of Mark Brydon and Roisin Murphy. They took their name from a slang in "The Clockwork Orange" novel (which derived the wording from a Russian word meaning "Milk").

Their first album is called Do You Like My Tight Sweater?, named after a joke on how the two couple met. They eventually broke up in 2001, but continued with the band until the release of their 2003's Statues.

A few years after Moloko's last album, Roisin Murphy resurfaced with a 3-EP set (you can see its cover art here). The same artist, Simon Henwood, was used on her debut album Ruby Blue.

Ruby Blue, seems to me, like it's played out to be more of an exploration on Murphy's part. It's not as commercial as Moloko's more dance-remixed-oriented music.

With Overpowered, we see Murphy coming back to the more familiar dance beats. I think this album will do really well in the UK, because, let's face it: Eurodance is still very popular!

As Murphy mentioned in her video - every one of these songs were treated as if they were a single. If I am in a dancy/groovy mood, I have to say that all these tracks are excellent. But like many music, I have to be in the mood for it.

Some tracks I liked off the new album: "Overpowered", "You Know Me Better", "Let Me Know", "Movie Star", and "Primitive".
