Red Monroe
Red Monroe is playing tomorrow in Ft Worth, so check them out if you're in the area.
I don't really know much about them, other than that they're from Dallas, Texas. The singer sounds like that guy from Superchunk and they're described as "art rock" (like Radiohead meets Pink Floyd).
I couldn't find anything about the origin of their name, but I suspect it has something to do with a bleeding Marilyn Monroe. Their latest album is called ¡Policia! ¡Policia! (that's Police in Spanish).
You can listen to some of the new songs on myspace,
but these are some songs worth checking out:
"City Boy Motel", "Sundown Shade" (I really like this one), "¡Policia!
¡Policia!", and "Governor's Ball" (I think this is the proper title,
otherwise it's entitled "Lion In Waiting" on the CD).
The song I've picked out is "Midnight Rites", which I honestly wanted to use prior to Halloween because it has that sinister feel to it. The actual song is pretty punchy and should give you a taste of what they sound like.
About 1 minute into the song, you'd think that they'd lost direction or something, but the song picks back up again 30 seconds later. See, this is the part where you spaz out if you were seeing them live.
Anyway, I found out that they have an upcoming remixed album - which I'm assuming is a collection of fan remixes from their 2005's Red Monroe Remix Contest. You can listen to the grand prize winner: Sin City (Shoegazer mix) by Jasinski.
¡Policia! ¡Policia! was released in September and can be bought from Good Records.
