I usually put on one of my DVDs (see picture) and sleep mode on my television, the noise it makes gentle puts me to sleep.

Nice collection! But I can't possibly go to sleep if something is playing in the background, either the TV or the radio. Pretty much no matter what it is, I get too attuned to it. Need dark and silence for sleep.
