Joan of Arc

Comments

I have posted a trillion songs by Maritime, a band featuring former Cap'n Jazz-er Davey Von Bohlen (also from The Promise Ring). If you like Cap'n, you may like them too. :)
[this is good]
I'm going to see Mission of Burma @ the First Unitarian Church next month. I haven't been there yet, I'll let you know. I used to go to hardcore punk shows in a church basement at Penn in the 80s. yeah, kinda odd!
I'm actually surprised I never wrote about Cap'n Jazz. They're definitely up there among my favorite bands.

Joan of Arc's last album was a mostly acoustic thing. They kinda abandoned the whole overly experimental thing. It had a pretty good Robert Wyatt cover on it. Really, that might be the only standout track on it, but the rest of the album was alright, too.

I saw them when they were touring as Make Believe (technically a different band, and they play different songs under that name, but it was all the same members on the same instruments, although I think Tim quit that band last year) a couple years back. It was a fun show. Tim lassoed a dude with his mic cable. That might be the least weird "Tim Kinsella" story ever. He's like the midwestern equivalent of Calvin Johnson. Often brilliant, but spotty discography. Legendary status among a certain type of people. And pretty much everyone who's been around the area a while has a story about him doing something really weird.
If people don't know, Calvin Johnson is the owner of one of my favorite label: K Records. His music is pretty out there/experimental noises...

vu

He's also known for saying hilariously rude things when people ask him about The Halo Benders, although that didn't stop him from doing a couple reunion shows with them last year!

If you're interested, I taped (audio) Joan of Arc this past weekend:
