El Perro del Mar – Love Is Not Pop

Comments

On the phenomenon of people getting annoyed about the music they love being used in a commercial - you are right, but I also think this is to do with authenticity vs commercialism. People fall in love with music/artists and naturally believe them to be idealistic and 'authentic', ie producing music because they were born to do it, and that their music is an absolute expression of their own feelings. When they 'sell-out' and put their music on a commercial, they are suddenly in league with consumerist, capitalist culture, and people think 'maybe their music meant nothing after all'. What people forget is, no matter how great you are at writing music, you still need to put food on the table, and if someone offers you a way to do this, and keep writing music (and giving pleasure to their fans), then fair play to them. With all the digital piracy going on nowadays, artists will probably start relying more on TV ads and the like o generate revenue.
