Excellent band I love their sound! Is it my impression or did they really use the high=pitched vocal technique as Kanye W?

You are right re: Kanye West. It's a feature that's used in Garage band called auto pitch correction, as demonstrated by "Kevye West" on G4TV (towards the end of the show).
